Two times 40 is 80
03.11.2017 - 07.11.2017
November 3 (which is the day before my birthday) we woke up at 8:30 and hastily got dressed and went to breakfast (the dining room closes at 9) We sat with Stan and Mary who are at our dinner table.
There was a sale of Hawaiian items and I thought about buying some macadamia nuts, but didn't.
We went down for the slot pull at 11:00 with Dangerous Denny - he's a big guy with a very large chair. I didn't participate, but Polly did.
At lunch we were at the same table where we ate dinner. I had bruchetta which was good, paella which wasn't so good
and caramel creme, which turned out to be flan. I took a trip to Spain and almost all the desserts were flan, so I'm not a fan of flan.
The internet went off just about the time I ran out of minutes and when I got it back and resubscribed, I decided not to wait until I got back to do the FindAGrave edits and was hard at work when Polly got back to the room. She said she would be there at 4 and she didn't get there until 5:15. I got dressed and went and ordered for her. We were all there but some of us were late. Polly was the last there because she did my hair before she got dressed. For formal night, I was wearing a dress with a full skirt which kept getting under the wheels of the scooter.
We did have .
as an appetizer and coffee ice cream for dessert
I had two fried eggs and grits for breakfast - I have to remember to ask for over-easy instead of sunny side up.
I went out on the promenade deck for a bit. It was sunny and warm, but windy.
Everyone thinks it is very rough, but it is not nearly as rough as last year on Carnival Sunshine (when I would be lying in bed and the bed would fall out from under me) or as it was in 2004 on the NCL Crown to Bermuda when they drained the pool and put a net over it because they could not keep the water in it. And the cruise before the one we went on Carnival Pride where it ran into Tropical Storm Sean in 2011 - the ship was a day late to port and some of the decks on the front of the ship had been damaged and wine bottles had been displaced from the racks and broken.
I went around the shops (I have a $25 birthday coupon from Princess) and also there was a $10 sale of stuff including T-shirts from the ports. But I wouldn't want most of the stuff they were selling if it was free - pocket books, bags, scarves and costume jewelry.
I was expecting Polly back at the room and we would go swimming but she thought it was too windy and cold. For some reason, Polly put the Privacy tag on the room and so when I went back before lunch the room was not done. I had expected Polly to meet me for lunch, but she did not, so I had lunch with some other people. I decided to have
(which I had on the Dawn Princess), and also
a turkey sandwich. They gave me the sandwich first. And I had an little
When I went back to the room we had balloons,
but the room had not been made up, so I called the room steward's pager, and he did the room just before 2 when he went off duty.
Polly and I went to dinner
and Polly had arranged that there were balloons on the table and a birthday card signed by the Captain, and another one signed by the wait staff.
and I had coconut soup (which came in a glass to drink with a straw) and
. They came with a couple of tiny asparagus spears and some potatoes and were good. Then they brought me a
and sang Happy Birthday. The cake was on a plate on which was written "Happy Birthday Rosalie" - it was chocolate - a kind of mousse surrounded by chocolate slabs
Jim took my camera and took photos of us
and of me blowing out the candles.
Polly gave me a battery fan and then later a pocketbook which was small, but which was big enough for me to put a water bottle into it. That will be very useful. I went back to the room and since I didn't go swimming, I took a shower. I can just about get my hair washed before my back starts to hurt. Polly came back to the room about 11:30 - she had been helping the blind man that is on board who has a guide dog. She took him to the comedy show, and then to the second music show. They have a little place on the promenade deck which has bark chips for the dog's potty breaks.
Polly said she thought she could get up in the morning in time to take a shower before breakfast.
I woke up at 6 and went to the bathroom and went back to bed as it was early. I woke up again about 8:15 and went to the bathroom and brushed my teeth and got dressed. I turned on the TV to the Morning Show (done by the Cruise Director J.C. and assistant cruise director Kevin). Polly thought it was 7:30. I knew it was 8:30. She was absolutely convinced that it was only 7:30 and it took my some time to convince her - I had to turn on to the channel which has the ships position and it was a couple of minutes before the time came on.
What I think happened was - she had not changed her phone from Honolulu time but was just making a mental correction of the time all day. Then she set her alarm for 7:30 and it was really 8:30. Anyway, she got dressed and we got to breakfast in the dining room about 3 minutes before it closed at 9. I got
and apple slices. They said the apples were fresh, but they were stewed or cooked,
We went to the biologists's lecture on the ocean after breakfast and then I went to morning trivia. I didn't do it on a team, but I got 15 out of 20.
I went back to the room and Polly also came and got her shower that she intended to do in the morning. We went to the Crown Grill for lunch as they were having a "British Pub" lunch.
(I had hot tea and Polly had a British beer) . (I had forgotten that I am not a real fan of trifle)
Then I watched the football games.
Nov 6 - We went to breakfast close to 9 - Polly wakes up slowly. We had what was called an
Cranberry juice was available at breakfast, even though it was not on the menu
Then we went up to George's meeting in the Skywalker's Lounge on Deck 17. This is accessed on the two aft elevators which are also the only ones which go down to the aft dining room.
When you get up there, you walk across an enclosed bridge over the pools and hot tubs, and since the sea was still rough, the movement up there was exaggerated.
George gave out the booklets with everyone's bio and recipes in it. Then George, Becca and another lady played a ukulele (they had been taking lessons) - You are My Sunshine, and Tiny Bubbles.
Then we went to the walkway over the pools to have our photos taken and just then the ship gave a big lurch and Polly fell -- sort of onto the back of the scooter as she went down. She got her foot scraped and she thinks she bruised her hip.
We went to lunch and I had chicken soup with meatballs, a turkey club and coffee ice cream. After lunch I went to the front desk to see what I could figure out about getting off the ship - they said that if they brought a wheelchair to the cabin that they would take me directly to the departure lounge and I couldn't go to breakfast. So if I packed the scooter and put the scooter suitcase out on November 8th, I would have no way to move around the ship.
At lunch on November 6, I had I had chicken soup with meatballs, a turkey club and coffee ice cream. Didn't take photos.
It was formal night so I wore my blue dress -- Polly had bought herself an outfit on sale at the shops. They are having a lot of sales because the ship goes into drydock soon. They had a dip which they said
I talked about departure with Polly and we decided that I'd get off in the scooter with the scooter bag as a carry-on and pack the scooter up in the terminal.
Nov 7 - Princess apparently does not do a disembarkation lecture.
When we went out for breakfast our disembarkation instructions were there. I had eggs Benedict. Then we went back to the cabin and packed the brown suitcase - the one I am shipping home via Princess We had Aqua 3 labels which was 9:40 disembarkation for flights after 1:30. Then Polly went for the kitchen staff presentation and a tour of the kitchen. I went to lunch without her - they had an ambiguous section of the menu
- I ordered it. It was just regular deviled eggs with a side of anchovies. Then I had
Polly came in about the time we were leaving. She has a facial appointment this afternoon. Tomorrow she is going on a tour of Mexico which includes wine tasting. I went to the front desk and told them that I needed more time than aqua 3 and got switched to pink 3 which gets off at 9:00. The restaurant is open from 6:30-8:30 and we have to get out of the cabin at 8:00, so I figure that gives us time to get out of the cabin and eat before we get off.
I was listening to the music in the atrium - watching a double bass and a piano, but hearing a violin. After a bit I realized that there was also a violin and they were all miked.
For dinner we had
